The Smokin Gunz Paintball series started off in 1998 as just a few stand alone events here and their promoted by John Heater, Brian Bartholomew, Steve Anderson and refereed by
team N' Control Since then it has steadily transformed into a beginners only series as a way to continue to grow and promote the sport since other tournament series by large where
ignoring the beginner level players. In the 2007 season we have expanded our reach to include multiple levels of play from beginner to open division. Having been involved in tournament
paintball for over a decade and having played almost every major tournament circuit out their from the regional NWPS, FPS and XPSL to national circuits like NPPL, CFOA & PSP we
felt it was our time to create a series for the player by the player. Now I realize every one says that but we feel we really are doing it.
One of the most important things to understand about the series is what it is today is just the beginning. We had to start somewhere so we took what we would want in a series
and built the 2007 Smokin Gunz Series with only one golden rule in mind "provide all players the absolute best and un bias refereeing possible". "leave the politics at home and let the
best team win regardless of sponsors, equipment choices etc.." Everything else can be changed and improved on by listening to the players. Most leagues have a small "steering committee"
comprised of a few people that are charged with the task of making the events what the players want it to be. While we think this is a good idea it seems to be largely ineffective in giving
the players a voice on what they want the series to become. So we are taking a slightly different approach by inviting any and every one who plays or is involved in any way with the
Smokin Gunz Series to be the "steering comity". If you have a idea that can make this thing better for all of us then go to the "contact us" page and share your thoughts with us.
We meet regularly to discuss how the league is doing and how it can improve. Your input will be talked about at these meetings. Remember most of the concepts we employ are a direct
result of player input.
Every piece of this series is designed to keep things fair and competitive for all teams. Here are some examples...
bracketing: this puts top teams against top teams and still developing teams play other still developing teams. Each bracket will send a representative to the finals so even
the lowest ranked bracket will have a representative in the final round.
Season Standing: We have narrowed the over all points value for each event so more teams will have a shot at the championship and a missed tournament or poor performance one event
will not cost a team the season.
Qualified team advancement: When we came up thru the ranks of Rookie, Nov, AM etc.. their was no Young Gun or Beginner you got one season of rookie Whether you where ready to move
on or not you moved on to novice after your rookie year. From novice you went AM or "open" after only two seasons as a novice and once you where a AM you could stay their so long as
you did not go pro. Well that's great for the teams that developed fast and could compete at the next level as for the rest... most teams just quit playing because they simply where not ready
or able to move up. In Smokin Gunz only the top teams must advance to the next division while everyone else gets to remain at their current skill level until they become skilled enough to advance.
These are just some examples of how we are trying to build a future for tournament paintball and it's players. More examples can be found in the rules section, forums etc...
I hope you will join us here at the Smokin Gunz Paintball Series in 2007 and beyond as we continue to provide you a quality tournament experience.
